Writer’s Digest 101 Best Websites for Writers

Each year in June, Writer’s Digest publishes its list of the 101 best websites for writers. It also identifies the Best of the Best in each of eight categories. This post looks more closely at the Best of the Best in two categories: Genres/Niches and Just for Fun.

Genres/Niches

KidLit411

Writer’s Digest’s Best of the Best website in 2016 for Genres/Niches is KidLit 411.

This site is full of useful information for those writing books for children–whether they are picture books, chapter books, middle grade books, or young adult books. The Weekly 411 column collects all the information posted on the site during that week, a handy starting point on the site. Get the same information via e-mail by signing up to get updates on the site.

Many of the links on the site are to other blogs. When you go to an external site, be aware that there may be ads there.

Just for Fun

goodreads-logoWriter’s Digest’s Best of the Best website in 2016 for Just for Fun is Goodreads.

To market your work effectively, you must read extensively in the same genre. Goodreads is a great place to keep track of what you have read and want to read as well as getting tips and recommendations from friends who also read. Goodreads periodically issues challenges, such as reading challenges where each participant decides how many books they will read in the upcoming year. Rate and write reviews of the books you read, and use the ratings and reviews of others to help decide what to read next.

And once you have published your first book, watch its progress on Goodreads.
