The San Diego chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and the American Society of Journalists and Authors have joined forces to put on an event, titled How to Survive and Thrive in & After Journalism, that can get you on track to a new career as an independent writer.
The one-day event will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Point Loma Nazarene at the Fermanian Conference Center. Topics will cover various facets of independent writing, such as freelance journalism, writing books, even public relations and academic careers. Speakers will include Randy Dotinga, president of ASJA, KPBS reporter Claire Trageser, Craig Gustafson, press secretary for Mayor Kevin Faulconer, book publicist and marketer Penny Sansevieri, San Diego MagazineEditor in Chief Erin Meanley and literary agent Elise Capron from the Sandra Dijikstra Literary Agency. The keynote speaker will be writer and noted TED speaker Damon Brown.
