Because the fourth Monday of May is Memorial Day, our meeting will be a week earlier, Monday, May 18. The speaker, Bonnie ZoBell, Creative Writing Coordinator and faculty member at Mesa College, received her M.F.A. degree in Creative Writing from Columbia University in New York and been awarded numerous fellowships, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Creative Writing and a Capricorn Novel Award. One of her short stories was selected by Joyce Carol Oates for inclusion in the anthology American Fiction: The Best Unpublished Short Stories by Emerging Writers. She has published her work in over a hundred venues. Published in May 2014, What Happened Here, a novella and set of stories, introduces a cast of characters living on the same block in North Park, San Diego, site of the PSA Flight 182 crash in 1978. It relates how shared tragedy can touch a community and the individuals who live there. Her chapbook, The Whack-Job Girls, was published in March of 2013. Please join us on Monday May 18th.
